Overview[]
Death List Five is a list Beatrix Kiddo compiled soon after the interrogation of Sofie Fatale. It included the names and code-names of Deadly Viper Assassination Squad members, who she intended to kill as revenge for the Massacre at Two Pines that took place on her wedding rehearsal day.
History[]
One by one, Beatrix tracked down the five members of the Squad. Crossing their names off the list as she went, she killed them in order, starting with O-Ren Ishii. After maiming and killing the members of the Crazy 88, Beatrix defeated O-Ren by slicing off the top of her scalp. Later, she tortured O-Ren’s subordinate Sofie Fatale for information regarding the whereabouts of the remaining members. This led Beatrix to her next target, Vernita Green.
Beatrix arrived at Vernita’s house and began attacking her just as Vernita’s daughter, Nikkia Bell, arrived home from school. Beatrix informed Vernita that she had no intention of killing her in front of her daughter, but Vernita attempted to shoot her and Beatrix flung a dagger into her chest, unintentionally killing her right in front of Nikkia.
Next on the list was Budd, her ex-lover’s brother. She attempted to ambush him, but he was prepared for her arrival and shot her with rock salt. He then proceeded to sedate her and bury her alive, also stealing her Hattori Hanzō sword with the intention of selling it to Elle Driver (the next person on the list.)
The following day Elle came to Budd’s trailer to buy the stolen sword from him, but during the exchange a black mamba that Elle had hidden in the money lunged out of her suitcase and bit him several times, killing him. Meanwhile, Beatrix had successfully tunneled out of the grave and made her way back to his trailer, where she found and attacked Elle. Winning the fight with Elle by plucking out her remaining eye, Beatrix then retrieved her sword and headed out to face the last person on her list: her ex-lover, Bill.
After learning of Bill's secret hideout by coaxing the information out of his father figure Esteban Vihaio, Beatrix used the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique, (a deadly move that Pai Mei taught her in secret) on Bill, thus killing her final target and completing the Death List Five.
Trivia[]
- Only three members of the Death List Five were actually killed by the Bride. Budd was killed by a black mamba (placed there by Elle Driver), and Elle Driver has not yet been confirmed dead.
- The overall storyline of "Kill Bill", a woman seeks revenge on a group of people, crossing them off a list one by one as she kills them, is adapted from "Lady Snowblood", a 1973 Japanese film in which a woman kills off the gang who murdered her family.
